Local Spotlight: Coffee, Community, & Service at Heber’s Black Rifle Coffee Company

Whether you're gearing up for a day on the slopes, planning to fish the Provo River, or simply commuting through Heber City, there's always time for great coffee and a meaningful connection.

In our latest Schlopy Real Estate Team Local Spotlight, Christy Gallen sits down with Tammy Thacker, co-owner of the Heber City Black Rifle Coffee Company.

Situated conveniently on the corner of 4th North & Main Street, this veteran-founded brand is about more than just a caffeine kick; it’s about continuing a life of service in the vibrant Wasatch Back community.

Watch Christy and Tammy discuss their mission of service, why they love the Wasatch Back, and what locals are ordering before hitting the slopes:

A Different Kind of Service

For co-owners Tammy and Amy Madsen, opening Black Rifle Coffee wasn't just a business decision; it was a continuation of their values.

Tammy, who is retired from law enforcement, and Amy, whose family has deep military roots (including a son still active in the military), found alignment with Black Rifle’s dedicated mission to serve veterans, first responders, and the community.

Tammy shared that while her uniform might have changed, the opportunity to serve continues – just in a different capacity. This local branch embodies that spirit, creating a welcoming space where community members, including those who’ve served, can come together and support one another over a cup of quality brew.

Wasatch Back Wonders

As a longtime Heber resident who graduated here and raised her kids in the valley, Tammy has a genuine love for the Wasatch Back. Comparing it favorably to the busier Wasatch Front where she also lived, she describes the area as not only visually stunning ("prettier") but also deeply community-oriented – something we at the Schlopy Team couldn't agree with more!

"I just think the Wasatch Back is beautiful," Tammy remarked, emphasizing the tight-knit feel and community focus that makes it such a special place to live, work, and enjoy the outdoors.

We couldn't help but share a laugh, discovering that Christy’s and Tammy’s daughters were actually dear friends in high school! That small-town, interconnected community feel is exactly what makes the Wasatch Back so desirable.

Fueling Your Next Adventure: Popular Drinks & Local Treats

So, what should you order before heading out to tackle some of Heber’s legendary outdoor activities?

For Smooth Seekers: The Liberty Bell is a crowd favorite. This latte features black-labeled vanilla and coffee, offering a smoother, delicious vanilla and caramel flavor profile that many lean towards.

For Sweet Preferences: If you're looking for something sweeter, the 1776 is a must-try (and Tammy’s personal favorite!). It’s loaded with chocolate, caramel, and "all the good stuff," making it a delightful treat.

For a Pick-Me-Up: Black Rifle also offers customizable energy drinks, perfect for getting a boost of energy and flavor, complete with customizable cold foams on top.

And while any of their drinks are yummy, don’t miss out on their food offerings! You absolutely have to try their locally-sourced, homemade cinnamon rolls – a sweet, local treat that perfectly complements your coffee.
